Development and delivery
You can tailor the tools here to meet the particular problem you are trying to tackle. Although they have been put in chapters according to their primary use all of them can be applied in any phase. The help of a facilitator is recommended, especially for the inexperienced team.
Development and delivery are about making improvements in a systematic and successful manner. Identifying new opportunities, making improvements and finding solutions can be quite complicated - without effective tools it often results in poor decisions.
To help you make effective plans we have divided the toolkit into four main phases:
Define: Understand what you are tackling.
Data: Get to the root causes.
Design: Get the solution right, first time.
Deliver: Make sure that change is implemented effectively and will carry on working in the future.
Even with a ‘route planner' it may not always be clear when you are ready to move to the next phase in a project. Tollgates, included in this kit, will help you identify when a phase ends. As they also provide some level of control and rigour they provide key review points for project directors and sponsors.
Using the tools
Our practical methodology has been developed using some of the best change management tools around. Not all tools are listed, nor are all of them applicable to every project you may have. You should tailor your choice of tools to the size and nature of the changes you wish to make.
If it is a large project with significant business impact you may wish to use many of the tools. Be more selective if the project is a short, quick win exercise.
